Buying a property in Spain during COVID- 19 Lockdown

If you had planned to move to Spain in 2021, you understandably might be having some second thoughts due to the current COVID-19 outbreak in Europe. Restricted travel to Spain, as well as strict and rules in Andalucía imposed by the Spanish Government, make the process of moving abroad a little complicated, but on the 9th of May the Spanish government will lift all restrictions so you will be free to move again and visit the area you like so much.

Decisions

Before you do anything else, now is a great time to make some decisions about your move to Andalucía (Spain) and clarify what and which area you want to enjoy. Make a list of things that are either negotiable or must-haves in your future home (such as being close to the beach, having a garden or a big terrace, a certain number of bedrooms etc.) in order to help you think more clearly when it comes to finding your dream property in Marbella (Spain). This is also a good time to consider your budget and the exact location where you want to live.

Start your property search

Whether you’re planning on renting or buying a property in Spain, the Internet is your friend during this time of confinement at home. Many Estate Agents will now have virtual tours available to view properties from the comfort of your own home. But you can also make a shortlist by searching our website and sending us the links of properties we have for sale. This way, we can send you the relevant information and schedule in a meeting for later in the year!

Plan a trip

Travelling to Spain to view properties is currently an option, as you can arrange an appointment with us for a viewing as it is allowed to travel with the intent to acquire a property. Once you have narrowed down the area and some potential properties, do your research on marbellaliving.com or just call our office to see what our options are that meet your criteria.

Paperwork

In order to buy a property in Spain, there will naturally be some bureaucracy that comes along with it. Before you do anything, you’ll need to get a TIE or NIE, which is a necessary tax identification number for foreigners in Spain. Without a NIE, you won’t be able to even open a bank account or complete a property sale. Although you can’t apply for the NIE online, you can prepare your paperwork in advance and make sure you have all the necessary documents and photocopies. There are also various other official changes you need to make if you move to Spain which you can also prepare for, so that when you eventually make the move, the process is a lot more straightforward and stress-free. But again we can aid with all the paperwork so you don’t have to worry about anything when buying your dream property with us.

Brush up on your Spanish

Finally, this is the perfect opportunity to learn and improve your Spanish so that you can impress your friends, family and the locals once you get to Spain. Having at least some basic conversational Spanish will make the process of settling in Spain much easier. If your Spanish is not that good at the moment, don´t worry because our team at Marbella Living will assist you in Spanish, English or whichever language is easiest for you.

We hope to welcome you as soon as possible.
